The Holz is an edgier, muscular design meant to reflect the contours of the human form. Its shape features a subtle brim to shed rain in bad weather and give shade in the Summer. The Holz design also provides significant skull coverage and a rear cut that guarantees full neck articulation as well as room for hair that’s been tied back. The Holz comes standard with Cork impact protection.
Each model is offered "Standard" built with 3 types of wood and a Custom option.
- Douglas Fir A high quality, kiln dried, dense grain native softwood harvested and milled sustainably by a small operation in Western Oregon.
- Big Leaf Maple salvaged from Oregon forests.
- Black Walnut salvaged from Oregon Farms and Urban forests.
- Custom - Myrtlewood, Madrone, Oak, Ash, Sycamore, Redwood etc. We can find other woods to use in making your helmet. Generally they add $75-$125 to the $425 deposit price. For exotic grain woods like Burls the price is typically an additional $125-$250. Laminated wood helmets generally add $75-$125. When you order Custom we will correspond with you directly to nail down your choice. Contact us if you have questions!
All of our products feature our patented technology using wood as a "First Line of Defense" taking advantage of its inherent structural properties that allow it to absorb energy in the event of a significant impact, adding protective redundancy to the EPS foam or Low Density Cork system that lies beneath. Additionally, in models with wood and cork together, there is a wholly organic helmet shell and liner that naturally resists the effects of UV degradation that synthetic helmet materials are more vulnerable to. This means you won't need to toss a weather worn and sunburnt helmet in the trash every few years only to buy another.
Each shell is reinforced with HMVK Polyurea impact shielding. Low Density Agglomerated Cork is a durable, resilient material that has more than proven itself in high abuse applications such as flooring and shoe beds and soles.
